Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLT or EVLA)
Q : What are the risks?
A : Endovenous laser treatment is a minimally invasive procedure and the risk is therefore very low. This treatment can be administered on outpatient basis under local anesthesia.
Q : What kind of results can I expect?
A : Results vary by degree and extent of the disease, however rapid relief of visible varicose veins and uncomfortable symptoms are routinely reported by patients. Ask your doctor for a full explanation of the benefits and possible complications of the VenaSeal.
Q : Is the procedure painful?
A : Patients treated with VenaSeal report little to no pain or discomfort, both during or after procedure.
Q : What happens to the VenaSeal adhesive?
A : The VenaSeal adhesive used during the procedure is proprietary formulation specifically designed to treat great saphenous vein and varicosities. Only a very small amount of the adhesive is used to close the vein. Your body will naturally absorb the adhesive over time.
Q : What can I expect after the procedure?
A : After the procedure, a small bandage will be placed at the access site. Patients are able to return to normal activities following the treatment. Patients usually report minimal to no bruising after the procedure.
Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS
Q. What is foam sclerotherapy?
A. This is a new treatment and involves making small volumes of solution (sclerosant) into foam by rapid mixing and agitation with a small amount of air. This can be used to treat some of the larger underlying abnormal veins which would not normally be treated with conventional sclerotherapy. The procedure is performed under ultrasound control and results are very promising.
Q. When should I consult a vascular doctor?
A: You should see our vein specialist once you decide that you would like to improve appearance of your varicose veins or that you may be suffering from one or more of the symptoms described. Even if you have already been treated, without much satisfaction, now is the time to call vascular surgeon to make your appointment.
Q. Are the procedures painful?
A. Sclerotherapy is very well tolerated and most patients only experience mild discomfort, if any. Following the procedure, only over-the-counter pain medication may be necessary only if needed.
Q. Will I have pain after procedures?
A. You may experience mild tenderness and/or bruising. Everyone may resume activities the day following the procedure. We encourage walking for 20 minutes, twice daily. Try to avoid heavy lifting, strenuous exercising and direct heat exposure for approximately two weeks. Although these recovery times can vary by individual, you can discuss your individual situation with your doctor prior to the procedure.
Q. Will my insurance cover Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins?
A. Generally speaking, most insurance companies will not cover sclerotherapy for spider veins when treated for cosmetic reasons. However we will make every effort to accommodate your financial needs.
Q. Will I need further treatment?
Depending on the severity of the spider veins and the size of the treatment area, it is unlikely that all your varicose veins will improve after one session of injections and you may need several treatments to achieve the best results. Some of untreated veins may have shrunk at that stage.
Q. Can I be treated while pregnant?
A: Pregnancy can have an impact on vein disease and your signs and symptoms may worsen during or after your pregnancy. Therefore, we suggest waiting until after your pregnancy to undergo any vein treatments
